The Book Of 2 Timothy
The purpose of these write-ups is to stir your interest in reading through the book of the Bible listed.
Author – Apostle Paul
Date of writing – Approximately A.D. 66 or 67
Theme – To give final instructions and encouragement to Timothy, pastor of the church at Ephesus.
Where – After a year or two of freedom, Paul was arrested again in Rome probably confined to a cold dungeon and virtually alone in prison; only Luke was with him.
Key Verses – “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” (2:15)
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing” (4:7)
Summary – This letter has a somber tone because Paul knew he would soon die. Shortly after this letter, probably the spring of 68 A.D., it is likely that Paul was beheaded as a Roman citizen. Because this is Paul’s last letter, it reveals his heart and his priorities – sound doctrine, steadfast faith, confident endurance, and lasting love.
