Spring Celebration Service
February 20, 2021

If this long Covid lockdown has taught believers anything, it is the value and necessity
of open, free corporate worship. Lord willing, we will never again take this privilege for
granted. Ninety-four of PebbleCreek Community Church members were able to gather
again at the Bullard Wash Amphitheater on Friday, February 12th, at 1:00PM for a
Spring Celebration Service. “Love Is The Best” was Pastor Bob’s sermon title based
upon 1 Corinthians 13: 11-13 which ends in Paul’s infamous words, “And now abide
faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Arizona’s blue skies and spring-like temperatures made for a picturesque setting but as
Rick Kesig remarked, “Awe the wind! That was a story in itself.” As pastor began his
sermon, a powerful gust of wind blew through the park. The large white portable tent
erected to provide shade for the concrete “podium” started to rise. Fortunately, our
quick-thinking clergyman reached up and, with the assistance of other service leaders,
caught the canopy. While they quickly disassembled the tent in the background area,
Pastor calmly continued his message uninterrupted. So seamless and impressive that
Karen Reifsten Peterson was led to comment on the church Facebook site, “A little
wind never hurt anyone…Donna sang like an angel and Pastor preached like Paul….it
is so wonderful to see our community come together! Love, love, love.”

The breezes continued, but John Aycock was available to hold the piano music for
Karen as she accompanied Donna Giocomo and the congregation in six favorite songs
centered on the Lord’s love for His church. The final lyrics of the last hymn, “Joyful,
Joyful, We Adore Thee”, seemed especially appropriate as we all do our best to stay
spiritually strong while respecting virus restrictions to our worship.

“Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife. Joyful music lifts us sunward in the triumph song of life.”
